In 2004 the Shannons moved to Kijabe, Kenya. Kevin is the director of family medicine residency training at the mission hospital. Over the years we have seen a variety of medical missionary efforts, and we feel called to be involved in education ministry. Thier desire is for East Africans to be trained and discipled to minister in their own culture hold the potential to affect many more lives than we could on our own.
Here's the latest news:
The Lord has blessed us with two African immigrant families (from Rwandan & Cameroon) with whom we are partnering to plant a church here in Manchester, NH, that is focusing on meeting the needs of immigrants and their children. We have been meeting in homes on Saturdays for the last 8 months. We now have a church name: Covenant of Promise Christian Fellowship. We have a statement of faith and a constitution. We are incorporated in the State of New Hampshire. And it looks like we will soon be meeting on Sunday afternoons at a local Evangelical church -- stay tuned for the specifics. (We'll let you know when we know!)
And there was a time a few years ago when we looked forward to finishing our careers on the mission field in Africa. But the Lord has made it clear to us that we need to be home now, primarily to meet the complicated needs of our youngest child, Katie, who has a type of autism. And we are very happy to be living 5 minutes away from Karen's mother, who is recently widowed. It is a blessing to have Mom an integral part of our family life here. Please pray for us as we adjust to our new situation, and throw ourselves into our new work. (Now, I plan to return to Africa annually to help AIM with various ministries, but that will only be short trips. Our new home base will be New Hampshire.)
