Oak Community Church began on November 25, 1902.  It was then known as the "Swedish Baptist Mission."  Three years later, on May 13th, the Swedish Baptist Church of Hinsdale was officially organized.  The congregation met in a rented building called Anderson Hall.  Meetings were held in the Western Springs Baptist Church.  Soon after, the church became affiliated with the Midwest Baptist District Conference.

In 1906 Gardner Hall, located on Lincoln Street in Hinsdale, was purchased for the sum of $1,200.  It was used for Worship and Sunday School.  Formerly, this building had served as a meeting place for a Methodist church, Village Hall, and an American Legion Hall.

On January 31, 1934 the name of the Swedish Baptist church was changed to the Hinsdale Baptist Church.  Services previously conducted in Swedish were changed to English.  Membership at the time was 34.  In 1940 a building fund was established with a total of $282 received during the first year.  Ten years later, a lot was purchased at Fuller and Oak Streets for $4,500.  Ground-breaking ceremonies were held on June 7, 1953.  The original church building located on Lincoln Street was sold in 1953 for $15,000.

On October 18, 1953 the cornerstone of the present building was laid and the building was completed by May 23, 1954.  In 1966, two homes on adjoining properties were purchased for future expansion.  Ground-breaking ceremonies for the new Christian Education Building were held on December 12, 1971.  In January 1972, an additional piece of adjacent property was purchased and in April construction began.  Dedication services were held on April 8, 1973.

On October 2, 2005 Hinsdale Baptist Church changed it's name to Oak Community Church.  At that same time OCC planted it's first ever church -- Pathway Community Church in Elmhurst.  Our launch team consisted of 30 OCC members and Associate Pastor Kirt Wiggins.

Since then, even though our property has changed little, God has continued to provide Oak Community Church with wonderful leaders.

May those who follow us in this century find us as faithful as those who preceded us a century ago.
